Verse: I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it yet. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:13, 14

Aimin' to Take Hold

In this piece, the cowboy represents the Christian who is diligent at pressing on, always focused and setting his sights on what lies ahead—aiming at the goal.

To represent the trials we face, there is a hidden image of a prowling mountain lion in the background, crouched and ready to spring at the same “goal” the cowboy is after, as if to intercept and cut off his attempt.

One day as I was still working on the sky area in this drawing, my wife walked in and immediately saw the face of Jesus in the upper right corner. I hadn't even noticed it until she pointed it out. It was a bit rough in form so I just defined it a little more.
